Is there a difference in carbon credits?

Yes. In terms of the amounts of carbon that is sequestered, carbon credits represent an arbitrary amount. However, in terms of what they represent through an on-the-ground carbon sequestration project, they vary significantly. Carbon credits may be produced through a variety of techniques and projects, varying from the replacement of a system or project with a more carbon-neutral alternative, through the protection of habitats which would otherwise be destroyed (thus mitigating the production of carbon dioxide) or through planting trees which will ultimately sequester the carbon dioxide reflected in those carbon credits.
